About Dark Matter Labs

Dark Matter Labs is a public purpose laboratory focused on the societal transitions required in response to climate breakdown and the technological revolution. We discover, design and develop the institutional ‘dark matter’ that supports a more democratic, distributed and regenerative future.

Dark Matter Labs began as a 5-person experiment in London, UK and has become an international team of over 60 in 5 years with presence in more than 15 countries.

Dark Matter Labs Canada / Laboratoires de matière sombre

The Canadian node was founded in 2020 as a federal non-profit, Dark Matter Labs Canada / Laboratoires de matière sombre has worked on emergent initiatives around regulatory experimentation, nature-based solutions, civic-Indigenous models, housing transformation and financial innovation.

A preliminary list of upcoming operational developments

• Enhancing the collaborative governance of the organization in Canada, in coherence with the international Dark Matter Labs group and its shared mission;
• Building a strong and independent small local team in Canada, connected to the global Dark Matter Labs ecosystem;
• Consolidating work streams already taking place in Canada in coherence with Dark Matter Labs’ international portfolio;
• Writing the second bylaws of the Dark Matter Labs / Laboratoires de Matière sombre in 2023, in coherence with the Dark Matter Labs international constitution
